Werewolf Circus

    Chapter 5:The Moon's Revelation

*Well Eric, welcome to the group.* That quote resonated within my mind as I watched the young wolf sleep. I thought of how I had been unable to prevent his transformation.
*you okay* Kiki said surprising me like she always did.
*Yeah, I was just thinking* I looked at Kiki and our eyes met briefly *I was wondering what would of happened if werewolves never existed*
*Yeah sometimes I do too* as she said this she sighed before raising her gaze back to me, where it stayed.
*Why are you looking at me like that?*
*Oh...no reason* said Kiki as she looked away. My eyes scanned around the room, waiting for food...yet again. I watched the door handle turn...It truly was amazing how much all of my senses had improved, for I had known that it was Joey the moment he entered the hall. I shuddered as my mind returned to the kibble I was forced to eat, it tasted like cardboard dipped in something that was supposed to taste like meat but to me it tasted like Brussels sprouts; it wasn't very bad but lets just say it wasn't a meal you'd find at a four star restaurant or even a three star. Joey walked into the room and quickly went to the freezer and pulled out the oh-so-familiar bag, but as his eyes found Eric, he froze momentarily before he shouted to Bob.
"Dad!" A few minutes later Bob came in, the hair he had left on his balding head was wet and he wore nothing but a moist towel that encircled his waist. Before I was changed into a werewolf, I had loved scary films but nothing had caused me as much fear as seeing Bob so near to nudity, and standing in plain sight. It was a nerve-racking experience, most of this horror was from the fact that Bob was old and the fact that he was someone I despised. Obviously Joey was as uncomfortable with this sight as well.
"God dad, get some clothes on!"
"But I thought you wanted to talk to me?"
"I did, but not when all your wearing is a god damn towel" I was surprised, not once had I ever heard Joey say anything that could be even slightly related to profanity, I had thought that Joey was one of those goody-two-shoes that help old ladies cross the streets and stuff like that.
"Okay, okay, I'll go get dressed" with that Bob left. Joey looked at Eric and I followed his gaze to see that Eric had gotten up and was now stretching.
*Good morning* he said with a yawn.
*hey! I thought you were dead* I said jokingly.
    *Alex!* said Kiki looking menacing.
*jeez It was only a joke, Kiki.* she glared at me...or at least tried to until Eric spoke up.
    *Um...so your Kiki right?*
*yep! and I'm sorry about biting you*
*It's okay, it's not that bad, I can finally scratch my ear with my back leg.* he said in happy tone as he demonstrated his new found ability.
*but aren't you sad? I mean like your family is probably worried about you.* I asked in a serious tone.
*No. my parents are dead and my uncle...*
*what about your uncle?* I asked.
    *my uncle threw me out*
    *That's horrible!* said Kiki indignantly.
*yeah that's just cruel* I added.
*Its okay, you don't have to defend me.* Eric said, the sadness in his tone fading quickly. I thought silently to myself, as I watched Joey pace. The door opened catching all of our attention. Bob walked in fully clothed ,Thank god.
"so what did you want to talk about?" he asked his son
"Why did you get another dog, Dad!" said Joey in a tone that was on the borderline between annoyance and anger.
"But I thought you loved dogs?" Bob said confused.
"I do, but we can't just keep taking stray dogs in!"
"We can take care of one more dog." Bob said
"We could barely afford two! We don't have the money!" Joey yelled at his father.
"We're going to make more money."
"That's what you say every time, but we never do!"
"We'll be fine, just trust me." said Bob his tone slowly getting angrier
"I've had to take up a second job just to support this stupid circus act" at this point I realized that Joey had crossed the line, mostly because Bob's face started to turn red.
"It's not stupid!" he yelled at his son before storming off and slamming the door shut after him. Joey sighed as he walked over and entered mine and Eric's cage. He sat down on the futon and I walked over sitting done on my haunches, beside him. He sighed again as he lightly stroked my fur.
"why do I even bother, my dad will never change..., he always puts his own interests before mine. It seems, like your the only ones who understand me"

Joey sat there for awhile petting me softly. Eric had fallen back to sleep and Kiki was in the courtyard, when there was a light knock on the door. Samantha opened the door before speaking quietly
    "hey Joey."
"hey Samantha" he replied in a sullen tone.
    "what's wrong?" she asked.
"It's nothing, I just had a fight with my dad"
"well.... When my brother and I get into a fight he goes for a walk, and that usually makes him feel better" my sister explained
*who's she?* I turned my head to see that Eric had woken up and was looking at my sister.
*She's my sister* crap! I thought as my sisters head turned to face Eric.
"what is it?" Joey asked her. I sighed at the fact that Joey was still clueless.
"Its nothing" she said as she eyed Eric "is that...dog new?" she asked.
"Yeah, but my dad got him without any consideration of the costs" said Joey.
"don't worry things will work out...they always do." my sister had slowly inched towards joey and now sat beside him. "come on lets go for a walk, just the two of us."
    "--And the dogs" added Joey
"No not this time." replied Samantha "they look tired" I knew this was a lie, obviously she didn't want me around, and I couldn't complain I disliked going on walks with them.
The day passed slowly, after what seemed like an eternity, Joey came and fed us dinner. I watched as Eric scarfed it down like it was sugar. I was much more picky, I waited until I couldn't stand not eating before I decided to force those vile kibbles down. Eric looked at me as if I was crazy.
*hey, why aren't you eating the food?*
*It's disgusting, that's why!* I managed to choke out. After I had eaten half of the food I gave up, cause I was about to barf. As I collapsed on the futon, Eric asked if he could have what was left of my food.
*sure* was the last thing I said before falling into an uneasy sleep
                                          >)}+{(<
*Hey Wake up!* yelled Kiki excitedly. I opened my eyes to find Kiki almost bouncing, Her tail wagging so fast that it could probably power a wind turbine.
*what is it?* I asked as I got up and yawned.
*one minute...WAKE UP!* she shouted at Eric, who was snoring subtly on the futon. He jumped up suddenly into a defencive stance, and was growling loudly for a few moments until he realized it was just Kiki. At this he relaxed and asked the same question I had.
*The full moon's out tonight!* she said in the same excited tone.
*Why'd you have to wake us up, You could have just waited!?* snarled Eric, as he growled slightly. I looked at him startled.
*Gee, I'm so sorry I had to wake up the grumpy pup!* Kiki replied with the same intensity.
*I am not a pup!* yelled Eric as he lunged at Kiki. I quickly intercepted the blow and Eric bit down on my shoulder. My instincts took over and I too began to growl, but unlike Eric my growl was deeper and more threatening. Upon hearing it Eric let go and shuffled backwards toward the wall, away from me. I continued to growl even though my brain knew that Eric was no longer a danger to me or Kiki.
*Alex, it's okay* said Kiki, her words seemed to work because my growls dwindled down to nothingness, and I felt myself relax. I closed my eyes and took some deep breaths before I looked at Eric who was huddled against the wall whimpering, and smelling of what I assumed to be fear.
*Eric, I'm fine now, so you don't need to be scared, but why did you try to attack Kiki?* I asked calmly, Eric stopped whining, but stayed against the wall
*I-I don't know? I just felt really angry and the next thing I know I'm biting you.* He said in a scared voice.
*It was likely caused by your instincts, you haven't been a werewolf that long so your more likely to act irrationally, also The full moon makes your instincts stronger and harder to control.* Kiki explained
*so that's why I couldn't stop growling!* I said, more to myself then anyone else. *So what's so special about the full moon?* I asked Kiki.
*It just makes you feel so... alive, so complete. It almost makes you feel like you were meant to a werewolf all along... It's like a special holiday, kinda like an important tradition, only it happens monthly not annually!*she replied with a sense of dignity.
The day was uneventful, but I noticed that as it got nearer to nightfall, Kiki became more excited, and her enthusiasm seemed to spread like a disease, for as the sun set, I felt a similar anticipation. The darkness was well settled when we walked into the courtyard. I looked up to see that the moon hung more-or-less directly above us, a perfect shining sentinel, the orb of wolves. As I looked at it I heard Kiki start to howl, soon she was joined by another voice, Eric. I couldn't hold back any longer, I joined their song. As our voices melded into one, I felt all my worries, my fears, ...everything disappear, All that existed was the moon and those who sang to it. As quickly as it started, our howls faded into the night, yet the calm that had possessed me during that brief moment of natural music remained. I looked at Kiki and Eric feeling happier than I had ever felt. Kiki stood nearest me, her fur glowing luminously in the diffused light, she was so beautiful, and I felt that I had to be with her for the rest of my life just to survive, It was then that I realized how much I loved her.
*Alex? can I... talk to you?* said Kiki suddenly. I was startled by this request, what did she want to talk about? Did she want to confess her love? No, she wouldn't do that. Millions of thoughts sped through my brain in only milliseconds, leaving me speechless and with a dumbfounded look on my face. Curses! I abruptly organized my thoughts and recomposed my face.
*Sure.* Was all I could say. She walked towards the fountain and I followed, abandoning Eric.
*you know whats kind of weird.* she stated as she turned to face me
*what?* I asked. She was staring at me again.
*well it's been a month since you came here.* she said in a matter-of-factly tone.
    *really?*
*yep, you came on the day after the last full moon! its also the day I met you.*
*yeah* I said as I remembered our first meeting.
*And you've changed quite a bit too* she said
    *What do you mean?*
*Well, when you first got here you were sad and hated what you were, but you seem to be getting happier everyday. It's like your happy that your not human*
*well I am happy, the fact that I'm not human anymore isn't something I purticularly like but I don't hate it because, if you hadn't bit me I would of never met you!*
*Alex! I-I need to tell you something, ...something important!*
    *Okay*
*Alex, the reason you... changed into a werewolf...is because you were a Therian.*
*A therian? Isn't that a person who thinks their an animal, or something like that.*
*Kinda like that. A therian is someone who is human in all aspects, except for their souls, which is wild or animal.* she explained.
*what does that have to do with anything?* I asked
*Please just listen.... I'm going to tell you a story... the story of my past.* she said. I nodded and she continued
*Remember how I said that the werewolf who bit me killed my family...It was a lie. My family is still alive, but I could never show them what has happened to me...* she paused briefly before returning to her story.
*Alex, My real name is not Kiki... It's Marcy, Marcy Williams.*
*Wait! my parents were friends with a Williams family and their daughter--*
*--Is me! I remember very well... we used to be friends until my sixth birthday when I went into the woods, that's were I met him.*
*You went missing, everyone was worried and looking for you, but you never showed up!* I exclaimed.
*Yes He bit me and when I found out what had happened to me, I thought that it would be better for me to never return, I thought that my family would never accept a werewolf daughter.* as she spoke memories came flooding back to me along with realization.
*I found after you! After you transformed!* I said remembering how I had snuck into the forest and found a snow-white puppy.
*Yes you did. you found me. I was so happy to see you!* she said as a single tear formed and ran done her cheek.
    *How long!?* I questioned.
    *what?* she asked startled.
*After you bit me when did you realize I was a former friend?* I replied quietly.
*I wasn't entirely sure until now but I had a feeling it might of been you when your sister said that her, your last name was Taylor*
*Oh...okay I was just wondering, please continue.*
*Anyways I lived as a stray for nine years, but then I was caught by the pound.*
    *where Bob rescued you right?*
*Yeah! when I first met Bob he was the nicest person. He brought me here, fed me, and cared for me. I felt safe so I told him what I really was, he was shocked at first but he welcomed me with open arms. Everything was fine and I loved him like a dog loves its master. Then one day he asked me something "how do you make other werewolves?" because I thought of him as my master I told him.*
*So?* I said. She looked at me, her tears now dropping like rain.
*Don't you get it. Because of me, you were forced to be a werewolf, because of me, you suffered unimaginable pain and stress, because of me, your life was ruined. All the problems you've had to deal with after you met Bob are my fault.* she nearly screamed out of grief
*Did you mean for this to happen when you told Bob?* I asked in a soothing voice
    *N-no but still--* Kiki started
*--Then its not your fault, If it's anyone's fault its Bobs fault, because he used your information for his own success.* She continued to cry so I walked up to her and positioned myself so that her head was behind mine.
*You deserve a shoulder to cry on.* I whispered into her ear.
*Thank you. I don't know what I would do without you? ...Alex I think ...I love you.* Happiness filled me and I whispered my message back to her.
    *I love you too.*
